Olly Murs ft Demi Lovato - 'Up' (2014) Music Video Analysis
This is the 'official' music video produced to endorse Olly Mur's & Demi Lovato's recent duet single 'Up'; consumable in both the former's 2014 album 'Never Been Better' & the latter's, 'DEMI' (again in 2014).
I am very fond of Lovato's texts - this being no exception - her star power is what actually brought me to consume this one. Having consumed; it has now become my personal favourite.
Below is the alternative, acoustic version to the single.
The 'acoustic' version to this single serves ancillary to the above version; both are however distinguishable. Performance characterises this version more - I believe (as an example).
Shots I particularly love:
Strong conformity to Goodwin's theory; beautifully employed to construct the impression of Demi Lovato pouring her heart and soul into the lyrics of the song, augmenting the verisimilitude significantly. Facial expression/body language are vital in this.
Significant in augmenting the positive vibe created by the song lyrics: the artists' passion/joy are clearly exemplified through their facial expression. Personally, I gather connotations of solidarity from this.
Relatively similar to the
shot above shot of Demi alone; exact same impact
- I believe.

A2 BLOG TO-DO LIST
Research into 'Demi Lovato' & 'Eminem' as my 2 in-depth case studies
Backgrounds - how they grew up relatively poor - how they were subject to issues such as: drug consumption, self-infliction, depression etc. How this played factor in shaping how they are now - Demi trying to convey meaningful music which reaches out to teenagers/young adults - primarily people who suffer/at risk of suffering similar experiences to her; similarly with Eminem. Their roles as empowering figures: neither are limited to just empowering one particular gender - which is where I find relation/relativity/inspiration.
Ironically - in one aspect - it is good they experienced said issues; if they hadn't their music styles would probably differ significantly now. They would probably have less of a following. My 2 artists are exemplification of 'persona' being integral in a record label.

Goodwin's Music Video Theory
- Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics (e.g. Stage Performance in a Rock video and dance routines in a pop video)
- There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals
- There is a relationship between music and visuals
- The demands of the record label will include close ups of the artist to develop motifs (visual style)
- Reference to the notion of looking (screens within screens, telescopes etc.)
- There is often inter-textual reference to films,TV, Programmes and other music videos.
Intertextuality should instantly be a recognisable symbol of pop culture as it interacts with the audience by bringing in current affairs which is a great promotional tool to establish a fan base.
